I bought this netbook in Dec 2008 and was pretty happy with it, all things considered. Yes, the mouse buttons are weird and clicking is sort of an exercise. And, yes, processing time is a bit slow, particularly when you want to run things like Word on it. I doubled the RAM, that helped. And I liked how light-weight, portable, and easy to use it is.

However, the real disappointment is that about a year and a half after I bought it, the battery would no longer charge fully. It would go up to 30% and then stop charging, which means that the computing time went down dramatically from about 6-7 hours to less than 2 hours. I talked to someone at customer service, they basically said it was my problem because it happened after the 1-year warranty. So I bought a replacement battery. I even upgraded a bit, from 6000mAh to 7200mAh. Same thing: The battery does not charge properly. A talk with customer service had no tangible result. While they were friendly, they were unable to tell if this is a power management issue, or whatever else. Obviously, I don't want to put more money into this machine. The battery is expensive, and so is diagnostic and repair work. Planned obsolescence?!

Update November 2010: I have tried new batteries, but the same thing is happening, so it's really a problem of the power management, not of the batteries. This basically made a great machine unusable. I stopped using this device, although I initially really liked it.

It is small enough to fit in a tote. I can take it to my home visits and type everything right up in the home and then download it at work. It is easy to use (once you get use to the small keyboard) I absolutely would recommend it to anyone who was looking for something handy and easy and small.

Looks pretty nice, reasonably light but it's a POS. Never worked right from day 1. Slow to boot up,
battery stopped holding charge in 3 months. Finally stopped booting up altogether. The kicker is that ASUS will not honor their warranty outside the US. Good luck with this thing...
